Frequently asked questions.
Have a question? You’re not alone. Here are answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often about training, boarding, daycare, and what to expect at Tailspin Dog Center.Option
Each program requires a different level of committment form you as the owner. The board and train option is good for owners who prefer us to do the primary bulk of training, with a transfer session to help you learn the skills that your dog has learned. Private lessons are ideal for owners who wish to pursue coaching and learn with their dogs. The day training package is ideal for owners who wish to only send their dog for training during the day time.
We take a balanced approach to training and use a combination of reward based teaching, clear communication, and fair accountability. Depending on the dog and training goals, we may incorporate tools such as slip leads, long lines, prong collars, or e-collars. Any tool we use is introduced thoughtfully, used humanely, and tailored to the individual dog with an emphasis on clarity, confidence, and long term success.
While we have worked and rehabilitated numerous aggressive cases, we prefer to focus on obedience based cases. We have wonderful resources to refer you to a trainer who can help you with your dog, however.
Dogs in our board and train program stay with us like family, to help them learn skills that will transfer best when they go back home. They still get the availability to run, take breaks, play, hang out, and enjoy themselves in between training sessions. Our structure is not rigid but is taken seriously so dogs can progress while still enjoying themselves.
Dogs will typically start their day with a potty break and getting to stretch their legs. We will begin with a training session and then a break. Throughout the day we cycle training sessions, play, potty time, breaks, and different things to help them learn. A fun, positive, structured routine yields excellent results for dogs learning with us.
